UDI Edmonton is guided by an elected, seven person executive committee. This committee is UDI's decision making body and elections for the positions are held each March at our Annual General Meeting.
The Chairman of the executive committee is recognized as the official spokesman of our chapter. UDI has a variety of standing and ad-hoc committees which parallel the various City departments (planning, transportation, water & drainage, etc.) plus a number of committees which liaise with the municipalities surrounding Edmonton.
The executive committee develops official industry positions based on input from these standing committees and through regular meeting with City of Edmonton General Managers and City Councilors. Similar discussions are held with administrators and elected officials in the other Edmonton area municipalities.
UDI Edmonton's office is staffed by a full-time Executive Director and Administrative Assistant. Given the small staff, the voluntary effort of our members is critical to our success as an association.
Objectives
The UDI Greater Edmonton Chapter's objectives are:
- To promote well planned Communities by encouraging the reasonable and unselfish use of land, resources and buildings for residential, public, commercial, industrial and recreational purposes.
- To promote high standards of competence and conduct in the practice of land and property development.
- To promote cooperation and efficient relationships between all persons, firms, corporations, regulatory and governmental bodies and other agencies involved in and associated with land assembly and development.
- To promote standards of land and property development consistent with full regard for the environment for people and with regard to economies for the development of available private and public resources.
- To familiarize the public and governmental agencies with problems and objectives of the development industry and to this end to establish properly supervised educational programs and to counteract, where required, pressures which would unduly harm the public interests relating to land use and development.
UDI meets these challenges through the active participation of its members in numerous municipal, provincial and federal liaison committees and task forces.
UDI Alberta was incorporated in 1958 and today has chapters in Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge, Red Deer, Grande Prairie, Cold Lake, Wood Buffalo and Medicine Hat. Since the majority of development related issues occur at the municipal level, local chapters such as UDI Edmonton are the most active bodies of our association.
UDI Edmonton's activities flow from the objectives stated earlier. We have numerous links with various City departments, City Council, associations and other agencies. Through the City Administration in particular, UDI provides input on development standards, policies, programs and bylaws which impact on the development industry. Our members recognize the benefits of discussing, negotiating and resolving issues through a common voice.
We are recognized as the official voice of the industry and are often approached by various community groups, associations, and the media requesting our position on issues related to our business. |
